Greater Manchester Braces for Snow as Met Office Issues Weather Alert
Weather maps are predicting a chilly turn of events for Greater Manchester and the rest of the UK, with snow on the horizon as temperatures drop next week. The Met Office has issued a forecast indicating a temperature dip towards the end of this week and into the next, bringing the risk of wintry conditions.
This forecast comes after a mild stretch of weather following a cold snap at the start of 2026. The outlook for January 25 to February 3 suggests a return to colder temperatures, with the potential for snow showers, particularly in Scotland and northern England.
WXCharts, by the Metdesk, provides more specific details. Their weather maps indicate that snow is likely to start falling from Tuesday, January 27, affecting Greater Manchester and much of the UK. The maps also predict snow for next Wednesday.
In Greater Manchester, temperatures are expected to drop starting from Sunday. While it's been mild with temperatures reaching 10C today, the mercury will fall to 5C by Sunday.
The Met Office's full forecast for the period January 25 to February 3 highlights the potential for rain and showers, which may be heavy and persistent, especially in the south and west. Despite mild conditions in the south and southwest, colder temperatures are anticipated, increasing the risk of snow showers, particularly in Scotland and northern England.
This forecast follows the recent Storm Goretti, a multi-hazard event described by the Met Office. The storm brought strong gusts and a rare red warning for dangerous, stormy winds in the south-west of England. Tragically, a man in his 50s was found dead in a caravan after a tree fell on it in Helston, Cornwall. The storm caused widespread disruption, including flight cancellations, train delays, and school closures across the UK, including in Greater Manchester.
