A life tragically cut short while enjoying a simple pleasure: watching a soccer match. On the night of Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, in Mthombeni Village, KZN, 26-year-old Siyanda Ngcobo became the victim of a brutal ambush. He was at home, engrossed in a soccer game, unaware that it would be his last. His sister had already left for the evening, leaving him alone in the house. Sadly, this seemingly ordinary night turned into a nightmare.
Siyanda was ambushed by unidentified attackers, taken from his home, and fatally shot in a field nearby. The local community is reeling from shock and disbelief. According to resident Nonhlanhla Mgenge, the lack of any gunshot sounds during the night amplified the shock when Siyanda was discovered dead. She highlighted the vulnerability of the situation, noting that he lived with his sister, without any other adults present.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a call for assistance. Prem Balram, the RUSA spokesperson, shared details gathered from Siyanda's sister. They had been watching the match together, and after the game, she left to celebrate her team's victory at a tavern, leaving her brother watching TV around 10 PM.
The sister returned home the next morning and, upon finding no response to her calls, began a search. She discovered a person lying in the dense bush near their home. Realizing it was her brother, she sought help from neighbors.
RUSA paramedics arrived at the scene, where Ndwedwe police from KZN were already present. Siyanda was found in thick vegetation, with visible bloodstains. The assessment revealed a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, just above his heart. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a KZN police spokesman, confirmed that the Ndwedwe police are investigating a murder case. The incident occurred on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, in Mthebeni. The victim was found in a maize field with a gunshot wound. The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
