Bold claim: CFMoto is poised to shock the racing world by bringing a savage race motorcycle into WSBK in the near future. While public opinion may be fractured—fuelled by accusations that the brand charged some customers for apps and tech that were advertised as free when purchasing their bikes—the spotlight at EICMA still belonged to CFMoto. The standout was the V4 SR-RR prototype, and that display strongly suggests this will be the platform CFMoto uses to make a main-stage push in World Superbike.
CFMoto has been clear about its ambition to compete in WSBK, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the company targets a grid entry by 2027. The main question remains how the jump from the 210 HP V4 prototype showcased at EICMA to a fully developed WSBK package will be achieved.
Although no formal confirmation has been issued, there are compelling signals that the company is accelerating its efforts. Notably, CFMoto appears to have brought on Matteo Ferrari, a test rider with extensive experience in Moto3, MotoE, and WSBK, who is slated to race in WorldSSP for the WRP Ducati team in 2026. Ferrari has already performed tests on the V4 SR-RR, and if he has indeed become a full-time hire, this would be a strong indicator that the model is being prepared for a WSBK debut.
Even more telling is the chatter about strategic staffing moves. Reports suggest CFMoto has been recruiting top engineers from rival manufacturers, including a high-profile hire from Ducati to lead chassis engineering. When you pair the potential hire of a seasoned test rider with this kind of engineering talent, the signs point toward a serious, near-term motorsport program—and 2027 looks like a plausible target.
Perhaps the most intriguing facet is the possibility that the V4 SR-RR will feature active aerodynamics on the road-going version. If true, this would mean the racing machine and its street-legal sibling share a technology that could redefine WSBK dynamics. So far, WSBK has not seen active aero in competition, though the Bimota BK998 Rimi is anticipated to race with active aero in the 2026 season under the Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team banner (BbKRT).
