Bracknell Toy Bank: A Heartwarming Christmas Initiative (2026)

Bracknell Toy Bank's Christmas Gift Drive: A Community Success Story

The Bracknell Toy Bank, a heartwarming initiative by four local mothers, has seen an overwhelming response, with demand for gifts soaring ahead of Christmas. This year, over 400 children will receive a toy, a remarkable increase from last year's 200. The organizers, Ashleigh Pinto, Cat Bodin, Hannah Beech, and Kate Jordan, started the toy bank in 2023 to alleviate financial burdens during the festive season.

"Our goal is to ensure every child has a special Christmas," an organizer shared with the BBC. The event, supported by Bracknell Forest Council leader Mary Templeton, attracted a long queue at the Lexicon, with donations accepted between October 27 and December 3. Gifts were distributed without referrals, carefully chosen to match children's gift lists.

One man in the queue praised the initiative, highlighting the value of trading old toys for new ones, especially for those who can't afford gifts otherwise. Another woman expressed her gratitude, noting the difficulty of buying presents this year and how the toy bank provided a much-needed solution.

The toy bank's success is attributed to the dedication of volunteers of all ages, including children from the Beavers and Squirrels groups, who actively contributed. Ms. Beech emphasized the positive impact, stating, "It's been amazing." The organizers' efforts have not only brought joy to children but also relieved stress for local families, ensuring a memorable Christmas for all.
