Hold on to your hats, Animal Crossing fans! The highly anticipated free 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch has dropped… early! That's right, you can dive into all the new features sooner than expected.
Originally slated for a January 15th release, UK players (and likely others!) are reporting that the update is already live and ready to download. Forget waiting until tomorrow; the island awaits!
Our team here at Eurogamer is already on the case, with our dedicated Guides team currently downloading the update as we speak. (I'm personally counting down the minutes until my lunch break so I can join the fun!).
So, what's all the buzz about? This 3.0 update is packed with goodies, including the grand opening of a brand-new Resort Hotel managed by none other than Kapp'n's family! Get ready for some relaxing island getaways. Plus, Resetti is back with a "Reset Service" – offering a quick and easy way to, shall we say, reconsider your island layout. This could be a game-changer for players who aren't totally happy with their current island design. But here's where it gets controversial... does this make the game too easy? Part of the charm of Animal Crossing is living with your choices, right? Let me know what you think in the comments!
And this is the part most people miss...Kelsey from our team is particularly excited about the introduction of bulk crafting. No more tedious crafting one item at a time! She's even put together a handy guide highlighting the top five things you absolutely must check out in the 3.0 update. You can find that guide here: [link to Kelsey's guide].
However, while the free 3.0 update is live and ready to download for all Animal Crossing: New Horizons owners, there's a slight catch. The paid upgrade, often associated with rumors of a "Switch 2" release (though Nintendo hasn't confirmed a Switch 2!), is still scheduled to go live tomorrow, January 15th. So, if you're looking to unlock even more content, you'll have to exercise a little more patience.
For a comprehensive overview of everything included in both the free 3.0 update and the paid "Switch 2 edition" (again, unconfirmed!), be sure to check out our detailed guide: [link to full update guide]. It breaks down all the new features, items, and experiences awaiting you in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
So, are you excited about the early release? What are you most looking forward to trying out in the 3.0 update? And more importantly, do you think the Reset Service takes away from the core Animal Crossing experience, or is it a welcome addition? Let's discuss in the comments below!
